This September, Mary and James will begin our life together as husband and wife. We will be married in the sacrament of Holy Matrimony at St. Luke Orthodox Church in Erie, Colorado. Following the service, we will gather at the church for a reception at 2:00 in the afternoon, and we would be honored to have you share in the occasion with us. As the afternoon continues, the celebration will carry west into the mountains, to a private home in Red Sky near Vail. There, among the mountains of Colorado, we hope to spend the evening simply and well—around a table, over a good meal, in conversation and laughter, with gratitude for the people who have accompanied us to this day. Mary’s family will be joining us from Russia by live stream. Though many miles will separate us, it is deeply meaningful to us that our families will nevertheless be together to witness the beginning of our marriage. This day is, above all, one of thanksgiving: for the life God has given us, for the family and friends who have shaped it, and for the privilege of beginning a home and a life of our own. We are very grateful to share it with you.
Our Odyssey. The long way home to each other.
We met completely by chance, through a six-hour university language exchange between Moscow and Colorado. Somehow, those six hours turned into ten years of conversations, friendship, adventures, different countries, and slowly finding our way to each other. There were a lot of miles between us, some very hard goodbyes, and plenty of waiting along the way — but eventually, all those little turns brought us to the same place. And now, after all that travelling, we finally get to call the same place home.
